9,348

That is the number of words sitting in a file on my computer after I worked hard on my new project for three hours today. That, my friends, is nearly 1/4 of the approximate size this manuscript should be when it is complete. I am sure that those 9,348 words will shrink some once I go back and edit and rewrite, but I am so prouda me!

I got to the point with it...guess I'll just start calling it Trading Faces, because that is my tentative name...that I am ready to print it out and let the girls have a go at it. That'll be interesting! I think I'm going to have Emilie read it out loud to Kristen and arm Emilie with a pencil to circle any word she's not familiar with or doesn't understand in the context. K may be a little young for some of the vocabulary, but should get the story overall. Emilie has a pretty advanced vocabulary and reading level for her age. So betwixt the two of them...
Maybe the second time through, I'll have her circle any words Kristen doesn't get, just to see if the level falls somewhere in between their ages, which is what I'm shooting for.
Wow. I just confused myself. I'm sure I confused you as well. :)

I'm done a little homework, and I think the genre/target audience for this book is probably called either "middle grade" or "tween" fiction, depending on who you ask.

That's all folks. Just wanted to do a little happy dance. ;)

I sorta really liked the other part of your title - The Nine Lives of Amanda Cassandra Entwhistle - better than Trading Faces. Just my personal preference - if I was a girl, that title would catch my eye first.

We're supposed to give each other honest feedback, right? So you won't be making a voodoo doll of me, right? LU

I agree with Gail.

As for me and my writing, I'm about to make a statement that sounds stupid, but it's not.

In order to preserve my sanity, I think I need to buy *Bird by Bird* ASAP and get back to writing...*for me*. I've been so busy with work and life that I've gotten out of touch with my writing self. Gotta get back there....My Joy to the Girl blog post from today fits right in with that.

Love you girls!

Yeah, I liked that, too, but did my title research the other day and there is another series for the same approximate age group (maybe a little older) that is "The Nine Lives of [insert other name here]", so I think I need to choose a different subtitle. I'm working on some ideas. Maybe something like Trading Faces: An ACE Girl Adventure.

Truly, they all sound stupid to me. LOL :) And to Ryan, apparently, but he's a boy, and 17.

I've also learned this week the definition of "high concept" fiction, which is what many (though not all, by any means) publishers want, and means you identify your work partly through things people recognize from pop culture(i.e. the tv show "Trading Places").

Who knows? They don't always let you keep your own title when you're published anyway, so for now it's definitely a working title.

And, yes, please give feedback!

FYI...I was NOT saying that all of mytriparoundthesunshine's statements sounded stupid...I was referring to all of my tentative titles. The timing was kind of funny on that, because I posted my comment right as Teri's appeared. :)

Ah. Darn other series! The high concept thing makes sense.

Hey, the word verification is "yooges". That's a neat word. Maybe that's what you get when you watch a good thriller movie. "Ooo, did you see that new movie? It gave me the yooges." Wait, it would have to be "yoogies". Darn phonics.

Well, derrrr. I knew you weren't saying my statement was stupid. It makes me laugh that you posted a comment about that. And you know what's funnier? That I *just* read it! About 4 hours after you posted it! I didn't see it when I posted my last one. We were really going comment crazy this morning, weren't we?
