Do you know ... where you're going to?
I made a new goal this week--not a strict word count goal (although I did give myself one--just lower than I've been shooting for in recent weeks). This week, I'm trying to take a step back and study where this story is going. Think about the characters and how they're turning out and what change journeys they're on. Think a little about how their stories all relate to each other beyond the obvious connections.
So much of that happens "accidentally" (or as Sara would say, through intuition), and it's really neat to read back over pages I wrote weeks or months ago and find the connections I didn't even realize were made.
This is almost harder than just adding words. In fact, I'd say it is harder. What is that old saying? Is it, "Stop pedaling so fast and listen to what I'm saying." ?? Maybe it's something about swimming. Or ... talking? Hehe. I am horrible about mixing up colloquialisms and such. :) (Help, Gail!) At any rate, this is what I need to do for a time.
It's been the kind of week where I am thinking a lot about my REAL life and the things that are going on there with the people I love (such as my crazy son), so you can imagine it's been a little tricky to try to figure out the lives of those who just exist on paper and in my head.
I'll let you know how it goes. When I figure it out.
