NaNoFiMo, or the month formerly known as NaNoWriMo

You knew I couldn't conform, didn't you?

I am going to do NaNoWriMo, but I can't follow the rules. I just can't. I have a manuscript languishing at about 65K words. I pushed it aside for a few months while I dealt with life--injured hand, contract work, and so on. I promised those folks I would get back to them and not leave them hanging forever, like those other poor people in books 1 and 2, who are frozen in time, in limbo, either in the abyss called "the middle," or the other abyss called "first draft in the drawer."

So, I can't do it. I can't start a new story. I can't throw myself carelessly and recklessly into it, following my bliss and seeing where it takes me in a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride kind of way.

I need to finish my story. No more sloth for LOTH. NaNoWriMo has officially become ... NaNoFiMo--National Novel Finishing Month.

I figure I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 to 45K words to finish this story, and although it's not NaNoWriMo's 50K word goal, I know I will feel a great sense of accomplishment in the end. Four or five of my writing sisters in my online group are either following the rules, or doing some variation on NaNoWriMo. We will encourage and cheer each other on, and between us, we'll deliver some good stuff.

Now, the countdown begins. I have three more days of October to get my business in order. Three more days of neglecting the page. Three more days to get the garage sale in order for this coming weekend. (Yes, I did say garage sale! Some crazy lunatic whispered in my ear that a garage sale would be a great idea for the first weekend of November...the first weekend of NaNoWriMo. If I could catch that crazy creature, I'd ... well, never mind. She looked a lot like me in the mirror.)

So, come rain or shine, sale or no sale, it's back to my corner of the coffee shop, or library, or a bench in the park if I can find one with an electrical outlet (yeah, that one probably won't happen).

Wish me luck!
